The cultural development of Changhua is never a linear progression. Rather, it's a tapestry woven from countless unfolding moments, constantly clashing with one another. Culture is a socially rooted local sensibility. It can be tireless queries, ongoing convergence, currents through the fields, quiet sublimity in places of worship, and resonances echoing in streets and homes.
Over three centuries since the inception of Changhua, its distinct vitality has been shaped by its evolving landscapes, established faiths, and time-honored craftsmanship.
This vital flow seeks no overt grandeur. It permeates the land, flows through the hands of artisans, and converges at places where people gather. Once united, this vital flow leads the way toward the House of Vitality—a space for faith and a nexus for communal bonds and affective exchange. This intangible vitality manifests Changhua's longstanding wealth of culture and shapes its future contours.
This exhibition traces Changhua's cultural source through water and recontextualizes its local vitality by foregrounding its intersectional nature. It is a cultural tapestry where faith interweaves with everyday life, craftsmanship meets hustle, and order contends with desire. More than a mere retrospection, the exhibition poses an experimental inquiry into contemporary life and the future of culture.
This future vision is not a distant utopia. It resides in the very present we inhabit. "Live in Belief" is a dialectic observation on the present, a depiction of Changhua's cultural tomorrowscape enriched by design.
Live in Belief
Description
Curatorial Unit
Since its founding in 2012, INCEPTION has curated and produced hundreds of unique and inspiring exhibitions, attracting over ten million visitors. We focus on developing original content as well as exhibitions based on internationally renowned IPs, while also creating distinctive showcases in public spaces and commercial venues. We believe that content is the core of every exhibition, and that each work is a language of dialogue with its audience. Guided by the visitor’s perspective, we integrate creative expression with market needs, drawing on global creative energy to drive and explore new models of exhibition-making.
Established in Taipei in 2006, StreetVoice is committed to providing a platform for musicians to connect, release their work, build momentum, and shine. Guiding musicians from incubation to monetization, our platform continues to reshape innovative growth models. StreetVoice connects countless original musicians and enthusiastic fans, and cultivates the most exceptional artist ecosystem in the Chinese-speaking world. For us, StreetVoice is "where dreams begin." With this founding vision, we partner with musicians and help them realize those dreams.
Founded by designer Joe Fang in summer 2013, JOEFANGSTUDIO is a visual design company that spans multiple fields, ranging from music, films, TV productions, exhibitions, brand designs, to awards ceremonies. We believe that creativity is a journey of listening and understanding. Our expertise lies in exploring the uniqueness of individual projects, which we interpret into thoughtful visual language and ingrain into the hearts of the people. In doing so, arts and aesthetics are no longer out of reach, but rather, a part of everyday life.
Co-curator
Born in Changhua, Lim Giong's earliest encounter with music was through his father's love for Japanese enka. In 1990, he rose to fame with the song "Marching Forward," which pioneered a new era for Tâi-gí music with its rock arrangement. In 1996, he composed the score for director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's film Goodbye South, Goodbye, earning his first Golden Horse Award for Best Original Film Song upon his first nomination. Later, Lim Giong gradually transitioned from a pop music idol to an original musician, and has since won numerous Golden Melody Awards and Golden Horse Awards for Best Original Film Score. The soundtrack he produced for The Assassin also received the Cannes Soundtrack Award in France.
