Organized through a competitive open selection process, the annual Taiwan Design Expo is a collaborative effort between the central government and local municipalities. By integrating national and regional resources, the Expo leverages design as a vital engine for urban innovation and governance. Since its inception in 2003, the event has attracted over 40 million visitors, cementing its reputation as one of Taiwan's most iconic design events.

This year's Taiwan Design Expo features 2 design zones in Qingpu and Zhongli as well as 16 themed exhibitions housed across the Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center (Messe Taoyuan), the Taoyuan Public Library Qingpu Technology Branch, and the Chung Yuan Cultural and Creative Park (CYCC). The theme, TAOYUAN in FLOW, draws inspiration from the city's distinctive waterscape as a land of a thousand ponds and its vital position as a nexus of diverse interactions. This year's key visual is a cross-generational collaboration between designer Akibo (akibo works) and Creative Director Yi-Hsuan Lee (StudioPros), reflecting the abundant creative energy of Taoyuan. Designer Akibo draws inspiration from the city's iconic pink tones and a spirit of lively freedom to explore design concepts for the expo's official mascot. The end result is Flowmomo—a creative elf born in Taoyuan. With a soft, endearing form reminiscent of a Lala Mountain peach, Flowmomo embodies the city's local vitality. Its signature landing gear design pays homage to Taoyuan's unique status as the nation's aerial gateway. Flowmomo is set to touch down across every corner of the city, bringing a surge of creative force and leading the public to discover Taoyuan!

From bottom to top, they represent the flow of local landscapes and waterways, the circulation of talent and logistics, the convergence of diverse cultures, the vibrant burst of Taoyuan's trendsetting energy, and the air routes to the world. As an organic, fluid semiotic system, they evince Taoyuan's unique position as an international gateway and hub. The color palette centers on blue and peach-pink. The cool, futuristic shades of blue symbolize Taoyuan's technological prowess as an international airport city and a national industrial powerhouse. In contrast, the vibrant, life-affirming pink tones represent the city's rich cultural tapestry—spanning Hoklo, Hakka, military dependents' village, Indigenous, and new immigrant communities—showcasing the creative energy born from interdisciplinary resonance.

The motion design, directed by Kevin Cheng (Nulls Design), builds upon the key visual by portraying Taoyuan as a city in perpetual motion. Through scenes of planes taking off and landing, high-speed rails crisscrossing the landscape, and the constant flow of logistics, the animation captures the rapid movement that fuels the city's unceasing energy flow. The narrative begins with transit windows—the starting point of the city's movement. Dots symbolizing energy from all directions intersect into a dense web of trajectories and outline the abstract silhouette of Taoyuan in flow. Through motion graphics and sound design, the animation illustrates how people, objects, and ideas from everywhere converge in Taoyuan and become peach-shaped dots of energy, a uniquely Taoyuan creative force that keeps TAOYUAN in FLOW.
